School Code of Conduct
Sarita Leyva’s Cuban School of Dance is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants. Every person attending our classes, workshops, or events is expected to conduct themselves with professionalism and respect.
Participation in our programs indicates agreement with the following Code of Conduct.
1. Respect and Inclusion
1.1 Respect for All
All participants must treat one another with dignity and respect regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ability, or dance experience.
1.2 Zero Tolerance for Harassment
Harassment, discrimination, intimidation, or any form of inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes but is not limited to:
Unwanted physical contact
Sexual comments or advances
Offensive language or jokes
Bullying or intimidation
Any individual who makes another person feel unsafe or uncomfortable will be addressed immediately.
1.3 Personal Boundaries and Consent
Partner dancing requires awareness and respect. All dancers must respect their partner’s physical boundaries. If a partner indicates discomfort, you must adjust your behaviour immediately.
2. Behaviour and Safety
2.1 Professional Conduct Required
Participants are expected to behave appropriately at all times, both on and off the dance floor. Disruptive, aggressive, or disrespectful behaviour will not be accepted.
2.2 Courtesy While Dancing
Accidental contact can happen while dancing. In such cases, a simple apology and continued respectful behaviour is expected.
2.3 Substance Use
Participants must not attend classes or events while impaired by alcohol or drugs. Anyone whose behaviour or coordination is compromised may be asked to leave immediately.
2.4 Health Responsibility
Participants must not attend classes or events if they are experiencing symptoms of illness such as cold, flu, or COVID-19, or if they have been advised to isolate.
3. Reporting and Enforcement
3.1 Reporting Concerns
Any participant who experiences or witnesses behaviour that violates this Code of Conduct should report it directly to Sarita Leyva or an event organizer. All concerns will be taken seriously.
3.2 Enforcement and Consequences
Failure to follow this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary action, including:
A formal warning
Removal from a class or event
Temporary suspension from participation
Permanent ban from Sarita Leyva’s Cuban School of Dance activities
Serious misconduct, harassment, or threatening behaviour may result in immediate removal without warning.
All decisions regarding enforcement are at the sole discretion of Sarita Leyva and event organizers in order to protect the safety of the community.
4. Dance Etiquette and Community Standards
4.1 Personal Hygiene
Participants must maintain appropriate personal hygiene. Use deodorant, avoid strong fragrances, and bring extra clothing if necessary.
4.2 Appropriate Attire
Clothing and accessories must allow safe movement and not pose a risk to dance partners. During winter months, participants must bring dry shoes to protect the dance floor.
4.3 Community Responsibility
All dancers share responsibility for maintaining a positive environment. Encouragement, patience, and respect for dancers of all levels are expected.
Our priority is the safety and wellbeing of our dance community.
Individuals who cannot respect these standards will not be permitted to participate in our classes or events.
Thank you for helping maintain a respectful and vibrant dance community.
Our mission is simple: To establish a dance environment where everyone feels safe, respected, and inspired to learn and engage Cuban dance and culture. Thank you for being a valued member of community.
